Surf Safe Education Programme
What is the Surf Safe Programme?
The Surf Safe Education Programme offers young people the opportunity to explore the ocean environment whilst learning valuable skills. This is a three tiered certification programme developing safe surfing practise and basic lifesaving skills.
The objective
The programme aims to introduce young people from the age of 8 to the beach and ocean environment and provide knowledge and a level of competency where they feel safe and secure in the water and get the maximum level of enjoyment during participation.
How is the programme delivered?
The programme is delivered by qualified surf instructors/beach lifeguards. Soft boards, ID vests and wetsuits are supplied. There is at least one qualified surf instructor for every 10 pupils.
What are the levels?
The levels are graded from 1 to 3 and are progressively more involved with 'Level 1' being the entry level.
Level 1 - 8 to 10 year olds
Level 2 - 11 to 13 year olds
Level 3 - 14 to 16 year olds
